Valdieu Fine Arts: a diamond and precious stone specialist

With a lifelong passion for gems and jewellery, Eric Valdieu did not come to the helm of Valdieu Fine Arts, the firm he has led since 2010, by chance. As the grandson of a jeweller, with a taste for design and the beauty and value that gemstones can convey, it was quite natural for him to choose to study at the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) in Los Angeles, where he arrived in 1980.

A year later, he graduated in diamonds, coloured stones and design from this world-famous institution and began his professional career at Christie's in Geneva before joining Bulgari for 2 years. In 1987, he returned to Christie's Geneva where he became director of the jewellery department, gaining him valuable insight and experience in jewellery valuations, whether for sale, insurance, inheritance or private sales purposes.

In 2003, alongside his role in the jewellery department, he became Vice-President of Christie's Switzerland and appeared as auctioneer at sales both at Christie's and on behalf of a number of charitable organisations in Switzerland, France and Monaco.

In 2010, with 35 years' international experience in the field of gemstones and jewellery, Eric Valdieu established his own business, Valdieu Fine Arts SA, in Geneva. Specialising in diamond and gemstone dealing, Eric Valdieu also re-designs and remodels pieces in association with a highly regarded workshop that has been established for more than 25 years and collaborated with the most renowned jewellery houses.

His expertise, international contacts and experience enable Eric Valdieu to give you the best advice for the purchasing, selling and valuation of gemstones and jewellery. An inveterate traveller, he always knows where to find the most beautiful gems and the best dealers and will often be found in Hong Kong, London or New York keeping abreast of changes in the market and unearthing pieces of high-end jewellery both for his customers and on his own behalf. Alongside his work as a dealer, he has run courses at the University of Geneva for several years for their MA programme in Luxury Marketing, written a monthly column for the Tribune des Arts between January 2015 to December 2017, and, between 2012 and 2017, was the manager of an investment fund based in Luxembourg specialising in gemstones and jewellery.
